At 17, JaJah was facing what felt like an overwhelming future. She was pregnant and unsure of her next steps, but she was certain of one thing: she wanted more for her daughter.

Determined to break barriers and build a strong foundation, JaJah connected with Santa Maria Community Services. That’s when she met Angela, her Workforce Coach, who helped her do more than just think about what could be possible—she helped her create a plan. Together, they set goals, beginning with phlebotomy training and working toward becoming a medical assistant.

Through Santa Maria’s Youth Work Experience program, JaJah received free job-readiness training and hands-on support. The program equips youth with the skills and confidence they need to prepare for meaningful employment, especially for those who face additional obstacles. For JaJah, it was more than training—it was a turning point.

Now 18, JaJah is excelling. She’s working hard toward her phlebotomy certification, acing her practice exams, and showing up for herself and her goals every single day.

But her story isn’t just about career goals—it’s also about the kind of mother she’s becoming.

JaJah recently applied for Santa Maria’s Every Child Succeeds program, which provides at-risk mothers with ongoing support from pregnancy through the child’s third birthday. For young moms like JaJah, the program offers resources, education, and encouragement through every early milestone.

“A notable thing about JaJah is that she really is a great parent,” says Angela. “She’s truly on top of things when it comes to her daughter, Jah’Laya, no matter what.”

Those words mean a lot—because they reflect the heart of who JaJah is: a dedicated mom, a goal-setter, and someone who shows up with love, even on the hardest days.

Her journey isn’t over. But with her daughter in her arms and her goals in sight, she’s well on her way—and she’s doing it with grace, courage, and purpose.

And because of you, JaJah’s path forward is full of possibility. Your support gives more than resources—it provides a hand up, a listening ear, and a reason to believe that brighter days are ahead.
