On Saturday, May 20, youth from the community and Oyler School in Lower Price Hill participated in Santa Maria Community Services’ Joe Williams Family Center “We Are Family” basketball tournament, an event promoting positive engagement with firemen and police officers. Officer Johnson and firefighter John Koch participated in the tournament as players and referees. The event was held at Santa Maria’s Family Center and hosted games for 6th graders and younger where staff and adults could join. 7th graders and older also participated and were able to enter the final tournament held in Oyler’s gym.

Overall, the event was a huge success. Along with the tournament, youth and participants enjoyed pizza and yard games. The event offered a way to bring the community together and to have genuine fun and friendly competition. Everyone who attended received a bracelet, and the winners of the tournament got an award. The officers and firemen were able to engage with the youth and community, and the event brought the community closer together.
