Cincinnati Mayor, Aftab Pureval, Declares December 8 “Santa Maria Community Services Day” in Cincinnati
City honors nonprofit celebrating 125 years of service in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI, OH – Mayor Aftab Pureval has proclaimed December 8, 2022, as “Santa Maria Community Services Day” in Cincinnati, honoring the nonprofit human services agency’s 125 years of service to families in Cincinnati.
In 1897, two biological sisters, and Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, Blandina and Justina Segale, founded the Santa Maria Italian Educational and Industrial Home, now an independent nonprofit organization known as Santa Maria Community Services, Inc. Santa Maria has been committed to being a catalyst and advocate for Cincinnati’s families to attain their educational, financial, and health goals ever since. Santa Maria provides more than 2,500 individuals annually with educational tools and resources to build strong families, promote healthy residents, and foster neighborhood revitalization.
“Santa Maria has played a crucial role in Cincinnati over the last 125 years, serving as a welcoming environment for immigrants and all residents to receive the support they need to work toward self-sufficiency,” said H.A. Musser, Jr., President and CEO of Santa Maria Community Services. “For the past 56 years, Santa Maria has served the Greater Price Hill Community. We are proud to carry on the legacy of our co-founders, Sisters Blandina and Justina Segale, who believed that one of the greatest works of charity was giving families a helping hand in their hour of need.”
“Santa Maria Community Services has been instrumental in supporting families, personally and professionally, for generations,” Mayor Pureval said. “I am thrilled we are choosing this day to highlight their critical, life-changing work, and am grateful for the difference they continue to make in Cincinnati.”
