Nominator Nune Sargsyan, Chief Development Officer of Santa Maria Community Services, praised Maureen’s board leadership – “Maureen joined the board in 2017, and shortly after engaging on our Board of Directors, she became Co-Chair of the Development Committee, and then took the leadership position as Development Committee Chair. Maureen has coached and encouraged the staff and leadership on culturally sensitive fundraising and leadership in especially trying pandemic times. She has championed and implemented our initiatives on donor prospecting, cultivation and stewardship, always aware of donor centered fundraising and mindful of staff capacity and resources. She is the first to compliment the staff for their achievements and bring this to the attention of the Board and Committees. Santa Maria’s unparalleled fundraising success in 2020 and 2021 are in part thanks to Maureen’s involvement, skills, care, and enthusiasm. Maureen has been a Santa Maria advocate from her previous years at the SC Ministry Foundation where she was a Program Officer and worked closely with Santa Maria on its funding requests to the Foundation – ALWAYS having in mind those we would serve through funding and working to ensure our agency was accountable for the results promised.”

Maxfield served in leadership/consulting roles for 30 years with several Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati related organizations, including Sisters of Charity Health Care Systems, Catholic Health Initiatives and SC Ministry Foundation. Maureen volunteered for 10 years as a VITA/EITC tax preparer for the United Way of Greater Cincinnati and retired from Maxfield Associates LLC in 2020.

“It is especially humbling to be journeying with Santa Maria’s dedicated board and staff in supporting Santa Maria’s mission of helping families help themselves, as we are celebrating our 125th anniversary this year of living the mission of the founders,” Maxfield said.
